Fallout 4 is a role-playing action game that was developed by Bethesda Game Studios. It is set within an open world post-apocalyptic environment that circles Boston and the surrounding Massachusetts region, the Commonwealth. A player controls the “sole survivor” character from a long-term cryogenic stasis in an underground nuclear fallout shelter. The character witnesses the murder of their spouse and the kidnapping of their son. He now ventures out into the Commonwealth to search for their missing child.

The game explores the dilapidated world, completing various quests and acquiring experience points to level up and increase their character’s abilities. In addition, the game has new features, including developing and maintaining settlements and an extensive crafting system where drugs and explosives are crafted from materials scavenged from the environment. The game also is the first in the series to feature full voice acting for the protagonist.

The new equipment system allows a large variety of upgrades and customization for weapons and armor. In addition, unlike the previous fallout games, weapons and armor do not deteriorate with use, requiring constant maintenance.

Skills in the game have been removed and have been replaced with a 7×10 perk chart. The player acquires a new perk at each level, each with prerequisites based on unique attributes and levels, and most have multiple tiers. One of the problems concerning this further advancement is that no complex level cap allows players to experience a little more freedom when exploring and in combat.

A player can continue playing even after they have finished all main quests. This feature returns from Broken Steel, which enables a player to experience the aftermath of their decisions. The player can partake in side quests that appear after the main story ends.

Critics praised the game’s world depth, player flexibility, the total quantity of content, crafting, and soundtrack while criticizing the game’s graphics and technical faults. The game became a commercial and critical success, grossing $750 million in the first 24 hours of its release. It received numerous accolades from gaming publications and award shows, including Game of the Year and Best Game awards from the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences and the British Academy Games Awards. Mod Support

Fallout 4 is the first game in the fallout series to feature native mod support for consoles. During the Xbox conference in 2015, Todd Howard announced that the Xbox one would offer MD support after the Creation Kit for the PC release, available for download from the end of April 2016.

Mods support for Xbox one was released at the end of May the same year, and support for PlayStation 4 was due in June but was delayed. As of September 2016, the mods on the PlayStation 4 were canceled, but Bethesda and Sony later agreed and allowed the mods to be released after The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition was released. However, the mods were limited to using assets that were already found within the game files.

Bethesda Game studios introduced paid mods in August 2017 through the Creation Club. Content available in this club was announced to be fully compatible with the main game, add-ons, and achievements.

Installing mods

First, you will need to find mods that you will want to use in the game. The most trusted site is Nexus Mods. From this site, you will pick a mod then click on the “Files” tab. Next, click the “Download manually” link.  Set path to your desktop or a folder you have dedicated for Fallout 4 mods.

Then go to the folder that contains the downloaded mods and extract the files using WinRAR or any other related program. Extract the files to a new folder using the “Extract to…” option to ensure that the files don’t get lost or disorganized. Open the new folder and copy the applicable files (generally the entire folder)

You should then find your Fallout 4 install location: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common.
Paste the copied folder into Fallout 4’s data folder. You may be prompted to replace or merge files. Click “yes.”
Finally, you will need to edit the .ini file to inform the game to recognize mods. First, find the ini file which mostly, it’s always:

C:\Users\*USERNAME*\Documents\my games\Fallout 4

Right-click on Fallout4.ini, then select Edit. Click CTRL + F then search the file for: “sResourceDataDirsFinal=STRINGS\file to File and save as then replace the current .ini file. Now all that remains is to boot up the game and enjoy the new mods.
